What is Power to Impeach?
Power to Impeach is a political super PAC dedicated to taking control of the House of Representatives away from the Republican Party, clearing the way for the impeachment of President Trump.
Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power of impeachment. As long as Republicans are in control of the House, impeachment proceedings will never happen.
What will Power to Impeach do with its funding?
Power to Impeach will use its resources to flip Republican-held seats in Congress, with the goal of taking control of the House of Representatives away from Trump’s Republican Party. We will also pressure the House of Representatives to bring up articles of impeachment.
Is impeachment really possible?
It’s clear that this president’s actions warrant investigation by Congress. From abuses of power and possible collusion with Russia, to lack of transparency and conflicts of interest, to possible violations of the emoluments clause, there are a number of issues that should be considered – but won’t as long as the Republicans control the House.
The House of Representatives has the sole power to bring up Articles of Impeachment, which can pass with a simple majority vote. As long as Paul Ryan is the Speaker of the House and Republicans control the agenda, impeachment will never come up for a vote. This is a structural obstacle that can only be overcome by changing the party in control of the House.
Doesn’t the Senate need to act?
If Articles of Impeachment were to pass the House, a trial in the Senate would allow for a full airing of offenses by the president. At that time, a grassroots movement would be critical to influencing vulnerable Senators to do the right thing and vote for the conviction and removal of the president.
Power to Impeach is focused on the goal of making the first step a possibility, by taking control of the House away from the Republican Party.
